Both Monetization patents tackle the challenge of enabling competitive, real-money gameplay without requiring players to be online at the same time. The first describes a tournament matchmaking system that groups players by comparing their scores against a pool of historical results gathered within defined time windows, using a dual-band range around each player's predicted score to find fair opponents. When participation is thin, the system widens or narrows those bands dynamically to hit real-time return-to-player targets, and access to higher-stakes contests is restricted to players whose performance falls within acceptable variance thresholds. The second patent moves away from tournament scoring entirely, describing a persistent spatial map where players wager real money on moment-to-moment movement, with currency added or deducted the instant a player's position collides with another's or when a player chooses to exit the map voluntarily. Because collision detection and wallet updates happen server-side, the system removes any opportunity for client-side manipulation while still allowing participants across different time zones to share the same map without coordinating their sessions.
