InterDigital CE Patent Holdings, SAS filed 1 patent in Cloud Gaming.
The application covers a camera-motion-aware video codec designed for cloud gaming applications. The technology uses 3D depth models and camera parameters to predict motion vectors, reducing bandwidth requirements for game-streamed video.
InterDigital's single cloud gaming patent introduces a method for compressing streamed gameplay video by tapping directly into the game engine's understanding of 3D space. Rather than relying on traditional optical flow algorithms that guess at motion by comparing pixel patterns between frames, the codec extracts depth information and camera parameters that the game engine already maintains. It builds a planar depth model for each block of video and uses geometric calculations to derive motion vectors that reflect how the virtual camera moved through the scene. This approach produces more accurate predictions of where pixels should move from one frame to the next, which in turn reduces the amount of new data that must be transmitted over the network.
